Chris Hamilton and Google Chrome

Chris Hamilton, my friend and work colleague posted a topic about Google Chrome last month, accidentally misspelling it as “Google Crome”, missing the h in Chrome. At first Chris didn’t realise this and before he knew it, he was ranking No.1 for Google Crome and gaining a substantial amount of traffic — he and I became very intrigued. From there on, it opened a new door for both Chris and I, diverting our attention to words that are typed incorrectly. Now, he is trying to rank for Goodle and currently as I write, he ranks 7th in Google Australia, but ranks 1st for Goodle Crome.

As we are always extending our knowledge in SEO, we are forever doing tests to understand Google’s constant changing algorithm. I will be providing a link to Chris from the anchor text Goodle, increasing his back links and thus giving him authority, allowing him to rank even higher for that specific term.

Chris Hamilton also insisted I write another post about the Woolworths Credit Card to see if I can rank even higher, though I have an even better idea. I will be linking this post to my previous post about the Woolies Credit Card to analyse how effective interlinking between posts is, rather than writing a whole new post.

Stay tuned for an upcoming post about the search terms Chris and I are ranking for in Google, until then — Peace.

Jason Mraz – We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.

Jason Mraz, one of the very few contemporary artists who makes exceptional music today, recently launched his spectacular album, “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.” on May 13, 2008. I realise this is a few months old and well, we’re right next to Christmas, however I felt compelled to write about such a beautiful artist. Jason, 31, hasn’t made his fame by following others, he made it by singing, singing directly from his soul, using his experiences and passion to extend himself to a whole different level…making it feel he’s right there with you.

His album includes 12 outstanding tracks, all beautifully written and making you feel a variety of emotions, from walking on air to feeling every heart beat. However, not all music is for everyone, we all have different tastes and this is generally developed from our own experiences. I’m open to most music and find different moods require different music. Jason’s music is light and fluffy, allowing you to listen, understand and experience what he’s feeling when his singing.

I grew up with music between the 1960s to the late 1980s. Singers include, Bread, Cliff Richard, Bryan Adams, 10cc, Air Supply, Don McLean and many, many more. I’m planning to go into that at a later date, being a music lover I have found music to be many things, from being a natural healer to sparking of wave of ecstatic energy and happiness.

If you like a bit of jazz, pop and the sound of a nice guitar with smooth vocals, Jason Mraz could very well be for you. I must warn you, his music can be addictive and very non repetitive so keep that in mind! You can buy his album from Bigpond Music or Amazon. You can also check him out on Wikipedia.

Feeling Drowsy After Lunch? – Find Out Why

I’m always feeling a little tired after lunch and generally find this fustrating. Not only because I have feelings of sleep but I want to impress my boss and get work done.

Stumbling through Google as I do, I found a brilliant article written by Phyllis Korkki from the International Herald Tribune (IHT). Phyllis explains why you feel tired after lunch, how you can prevent it and ways of becoming just that bit more proactive.

Feeling tired after lunch or commonly known as “post-lunch dip” is a result from a few factors. The first being, you guessed it, food. Food is a natural drowsiness as our body needs energy to digest it. The more food you put in, the more energy you will need. Secondly, the body is in a natural rhythm to regain energy at this time, this is known as “circadian rhythm”. And finally, our physiological cycle, known as homeostatic, which measures how long you’ve been awake and how much more you can push.

It’s very interesting to read from my point of view, especially typing in post-lunch dip as it explains why productivity is so low after lunch and of course, not to mention its half way through the day!

Phyllis also speaks about why certain people need longer periods of sleep and simply give into their bodies. People have been known to find a place in their office or car to have a nice quiet nap because they can’t resist the urge of sleep. This isn’t always caused by lack of sleep, just the need of it. Factors like growing, stress, over eating and pain are big contributers and many to this day still don’t see this.

Last night, reading my daily mX (Train Newspaper) on the train, I discovered a survey they performed with over 10,000 people. Many stating 4:33PM was their worst time to feel creative and productive. Why this exact time is unknown, it does makes sense – 30 minutes before work is over (for most) and you don’t really want to start something and not finish it. So – is it best to wait it out? Not from my experience, it’s better you continue working on something or start a new and work a bit over, to make up for lost time. There is no point in fighting your mind on natural behaviours like this, you will surely lose.

44% of that 10,000 also stated they felt having a shower helped boost their creativity, allowing them to think clearly. In my younger years, I always wondered why my Dad always had continuous showers and why I to also had a large amount, now, I have a much better understanding…

I’m going to put up a poll with different questions on what helps your creativity, if showers help, taking a walk or simply zoning out in utter silence. This will be interesting.

I would recommend Phyllis Korkki’s article as it’s truly a tremendous read. You can view it here.

Depression: My Theory

Do you ever find yourself feeling down, listening to sad music and not wanting to express your thoughts to anyone? Many call this a “problem”, however many fail to realise these are natural feelings which are brought on by factors like not being able to achieve within yourself. Some classify this as depression, I do not.

Depression is where your mind gets comfortable to a certain pattern. You may have lost a close friend or been in a horrific accident and your mind suddenly locks down with a series of feelings that follow to help protect your mind, but unfortunately this happens over and over until your are at absolute zero, and for some, this can be a very long way down.

Some feelings that are invoked are: Misery, Self-Worth, Doubt and Anger. When all of these feelings are combined, you get a reaction, the “big explosion” to be precise. In order to release ones mind, you need to deal with the controlling feelings. This is easier said then done of course, however being in control will allow you to heal properly and move forward, not pushing it down.

So now you’re probably wondering why has this topic been brought up? It’s simple, I’m not feeling 100% and in order for me to heal I need to release my negative energy and recharge with new, positive energy. Blogs are great for this, as many have experienced already. Your own personal space, no one winging next to you saying you can’t do that then telling the teacher. If you don’t agree with something, you move forward, that’s the internet, your in control…

Though I’m also wanting to show you I’m simply a normal person, like you, there is nothing fake or abnormal about me, just a human being with a heart and a passion for IT. I relieve myself by helping others, giving back to the world of which gave me so much, allowing me to be who I am.

If I help you, in any way, I would love to hear it or if you have a question, throw it towards me and I’ll try my utter best to help you!

Let’s move as a positive nation, keep families together, separation down and negative energy to a low.

Coke Addiction – Let’s Destroy It!

Coke, one of the hardest addictions to break. I’ve had a Coke addiction since I was 13 years old and it’s been very hard to quit. You know I’m talking about Coca Cola right? Haha! I thought I’d better mention that before people start assuming things, even though the whole idea of title was to catch you!

Anyway, back onto my story. I’ve never been able to assume addictions like smoking. As many teenagers go through their adolescent years trying new things and learning what they like, don’t like and unfortunately, addictions, there friends also get involved and the chain effect grows. My {awesome} friends smoked various things, taken absolutely crazy things and yet I’ve never found it to be addictive…only Coca Cola, why?

Firstly, if you’re asking the exact same question, let’s put a few things into perspective. Coca Cola has the following:

  • High Sugar Content (65g per 600ml)
  • Caffeine
  • Food Acid
  • Flavour
  • Mixture of “Spices”

Any of the above gets tasted by a child or a young adult will send their brain into a mind altering state. Of course, the younger you are, the easier your mind gets used to it… i.e. Like when we practice walking at a young age — we never forget, do we?

So what are my recommendations? It’s clearly simple: Reprogram your mind.

Before you start attesting this etc, It’s hard to reprogram your mind, especially as you grow older with certain habbits and addictions. However, It’s always easier to help another than yourself so let’s hope this helps me along the way too!

Step 1: Don’t go cold turkey. The receptors in your brain will go absolutely nuts because they’ve been used to something for so long, it’s part of the daily grind. You need to back off slowly and surely, positively moving forward every day, every hour and minute.

Step 2: Transform your mind into a new routine. Stop doing your usual things, mix it up. Get a calander and write down which days you will drink and stick by it. Then two weeks later, scribble a day off and have 1 “Coke Day” less.

Step 3 – Important: Water, water and water. This is the most vital step as our bodies are always craving water, we just don’t admit it. The more you drink water, the less dehydrated you are and the less you crave because you’re getting needed minerals etc.

I have just started this and will keep everyone informed on my progress but do something for me, let me know how you are going — I will post you up here so you can see it! Just make a comment and we can go from there!

Here we go….Bye Bye Coke!

The Australian Economy – What’s happening?

The US economy has been in turmoil for much longer than most actually know. Dating back to the horrific event of 9/11, the US have never really recovered to a feasible level and ever since, has been on a slow downward slide. Financial advisors yelling and screaming about this current time wasn’t enough for people to realise the possible catastrophic effects it will have on the economy, and ultimately on themselves. The US being the strongest economy for decades distilled comfort in most which has made people simply not acceptant of the possibility of a crash. Though, as many still fail to realise, a lot of life events are still connected with physics with the popular saying going, “What goes up, must go down”.

So how does this affect us Aussies? Well, unfortunately it has already effected us very hard but all hidden below the surface. The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) firstly cut interest rates by a whole 1% to help inflation, though the banks only declared a 0.8% cut, holding onto their “well earned” money. To non-financial savvy people, this means, they simply don’t wish to get into bad debt. I’ll give you a short explanation:

Firstly, a bank in Australia will borrow money from a large corporation (e.g. US Bank) at a specific interest rate for a particular term, like 5 years. They then loan that money to consumers (us) at a higher rate in order to pay back their loan and make a profit. However, as many know there is good debt and bad debt and unfortunately, much bad debt like Lehman Brothers is floating around. Large corporations with good money surplus don’t wish to loan their money around as it can easily become a liability and turn into bad debt.

If you have recently gone into a bank to apply for a loan, credit card or a new bank account, you would’ve noticed new “restrictions” and the possibility of being declined far greater. This has been put into play to only allow people with the proper financial backing to become eligible. You might have certain assets which are valuable to you, however they could be easily deemed liabilities by your bank, depending on circumstances. A good explanation of assets vs liabilities can be found here.

So in result of the US economy crashing, the biggest economy in the world, other countries will of course follow suit. Our dollar hit a 5 year record low of 0.65 cents (0.6584) to the US dollar.

Record Fall

As you can see above, just before 6AM, it hit the record low and then climbed strongly from thereon, nearly hitting 0.68 before finishing just under 0.67.

Kevin Rudd and 20 finance ministers are working with Washington to provide relief to the Australian economy. More can be read at the Sunday Morning Herald here.

All I can suggest is to be cautious, not frugal. As history repeats itself, especially like in this occasion (1980 recession), we will eventually get through it. We will live and evolve into a bigger and better world…

Stay tuned for more updates.

Note: I’m not a financial advisor nor am I some finance guru. If any of the above helps you, in any way, great – however, when you leave this website with the above information in mind, I am not liable. Thank you for your understanding!
